Hi everyone,

Just wanted to say a very big "Thank You" to all who made a tremendous effort to attend the MEHSA 1st International Reunion on 7th July and Mrs Logie's honourary lunch on the 8th. If it hadn't been for your suggestions, help and support in so many ways and your generous financial contributions, the whole thing would not have been the success that it was.

I would like to thank especially Bob Fuller for the trouble he took of reprinting the Swaying Palm annuals, ordering and mailing the commemorative T-shirts, helping in drawing up the programmes and acting as Master-of-Ceremony for both events. It was certainly due to Bob's organising and planning skills that the Gainsborough House Hotel was transformed into an efficient and well laid out venue for the reunion. Thanks are due to Margaret Fuller for proof-reading the programme, folding the programmes and organising the various tables at the reunion dinner amongst other things.

Many thanks to Gloria and Jimmy Winthein, Irene and Maurice, for their unstinting help, right from the word go, in organising the two day event. The time and effort that Gloria had spent in keeping track of all the alumni who had given their names as potential attendees, collecting the deposits and ensuring that the records were kept up-to-date must have been tremendous. I am sure Jimmy was also involved although his name seldom appeared in the emails. He probably preferred to push Gloria from behind (I almost wrote from the backside). To Irene and Maurice, I shall be ever grateful for their assistance and advice in drafting the programme and for taking responsibility for recording the event on camera and video. I look forward to seeing them soon.

My heartfelt thanks go to Carol Nelson, nee Clift, for bringing the beautiful MEHSA REUNION banner, the house coloured flags, the decorations and the name tags from Vietnam. Also for her help in selling the raffle tickets together with June Larden and friends (Sorry for not mentioning everyone by name). The raffle raised over two hundred pounds towards the MEHSA funds. I would like to thank Carol again for helping set up and decorate the dining room together with my brother Richard and a host of other people. I owe Carol an apology as well for not doing the MEHS TRIVIA QUIZ due to lack of time which she had put a great deal of effort in preparing. The individual introductions after the dinner were so interesting and humorous that time just flew without our being aware of how long it had taken.

We all are indebted to Martha and Irwin Wason for leading the sing and providing the accompaniment on the electronic keyboard. Singing the school song sent shivers through my spine and I could sense a wave of pride from the congregation as we sang the song again with Mrs Logie conducting in her wheelchair.

I am very grateful to Ma Thelma Chein Lyan, as one of the most senior alumnus, for her speech of gratitude to Mrs Logie and the teachers of MEHS, delivered on behalf of the alumni present.

My thanks go to Captain Aye Tut for his impromptu entertainment with some popular Burmese songs at the reunion dinner and for presenting Mrs Logie with her Commemorative Reunion Album. I must try not to forget to call him by his first name when I meet him again, i.e. Captain.

Last, but not least, I cannot express in words the gratitude I owe to the TEOH family who have contributed in so many ways to make this reunion a reality rather than a pipe dream. If it hadn't been for Juliet's drive and inspiration the idea of setting up the MEHS website would have taken a few more years to materialise if at all. And without Kenny's hard work and talents, the website would not exist in the way it does now. Cecil, George and Lilian who represented the Teohs at the reunion did a sterling job in telling us about how the MEHS school and teachers have provided us with an education that has served us well in our lives. I would like to thank and congratulate Lilian for the short talk that she delivered in memory of Juliet which was so poignant and sad, which I am sure brought tears to many an eye.

Once again I would like to thank everyone who came, for without your presence it would not have been a success. I do apologise for not mentioning all of you by name.

But for the record, I am providing below the list of all who attended.

Kyaw Thinn (Leo)
