How do you expect me to remember my house and color when that was nearly 50 years (half century!) ago? Anyway, I'm glad you've started this site. One of my students at the University of Hawaii in my "History of Burma" class said her parents were from Burma with the last name of Chin. The only one I remember from my class was Robert Chin, whose mother was (I think) our Burmese teacher as well. But I'm not sure my student was connected to Robert. I do remember the names Valentine Liu, Vilma Khaing (on whom I had a crush), Carol Cliff, Teddy something, Bertrand something whose parents had that night club out there on the road towards the airport, Reggie something who sang (and shook) like Elvis, and in Kindergarten, Janet Rose and her white shoes. So far so good.

I am so happy to see all of you find each other after all these years. My husband, Amin, talked about the wonderful time he had in school in Rangoon, and he is full of stories about all of the absolutely amazing friends and people he met. To me, it seems like a unique, almost unbelievable, experience. You might never have thought about it while you were there, it is something you can probably never replicate! WISHING YOU ALL OF GOD'S MANY BLESSINGS AND ALL THINGS BRIGHT AND BEAUTIFUL! MAY THE JOURNEY CONTINUE....... Marlis and Amin Soorty |

Today is January 24, 2007. I am so excited to stumble across this website of my favorite school - MEHS - I still remember a little of our school song - Methodist English High School, proud we are of theeI completed my GCE in 1965. My teachers were Mrs. Hein Tin (Geography), Miss Rosair (English), Mrs. Wood (History), Mr.Crane (Math). My classmates Joann Mclean, Margaret Tin Maung (who moved to Canada), Wendy Chan, Patricia Hengshoon, Saeeda Arif, Alicia Monroe, and many more whose names I can't remember at present. I am hoping to hear from some one - if you read this. PLEASE DO GET IN TOUCH. Those were the best days of my life. I left Rangoon in March of 1967 for India. There I completed my college. Got married and came to Canada, then moved to USA. Now my husband and I are settled in Connecticut. I work for a German Pharmaceutical Company. My son (one and only) is now a Medical Doctor. Neal graduated May 2006. He is doing his residency in Ohio. We are very, very proud of him. I wish to get in touch with my friend Joann Mclean. I have a very good friend from MEHS who is married and settled in Calcutta, India. We keep in touch and often recall our wonderful life in Rangoon and our school MEHS. Thanks to everyone who have contributed towards all the information of our teachers. |

Although I did not attend MEHS, I do have very fond memories of that wonderful institution and every year we used to look forward to the school's Fun Fare where there used to be music, food, funrides, etc. and also meet many of my friends who attended MEHS. I left Rangoon in 1970 and have been in the States ever since. I live in the suburb of the nation's capital Washington, DC and try to keep in touch with our Burmese community which over the years has grown from just a dozen or so to many hundreds now. I have visited Myanmar a few times since migrating to the States and every trip is most enjoyable and hopefully visit in the near future. Just a brief introduction. My name is Ariff Cassim and we used to live in the city in Rangoon and attended Silva Dale School located on Creek Street. I am now in New Home construction, married and have 3 children ages 19 to 24 all of them in college at the same time. If any of you old friend would like to get in touch or ever visit Wsahington, DC please look me up. Following is my email: ariff.cassim@lennar.com and I am listed in phone book in Potomac, Maryland USA. Last but not least, my kudos to who so ever put together this Website... what a great idea and thanks and a very Happy New Year to all... |

My mum Betty Kong (Daw Kyin Shwe) was seriously ill and taken to hospital on the 20th of October, with heart failure, renal failure and chest infection. She survived this, bless her, and is recovering in a hospital at the Shwegondiang Specialist Centre. I went home for a week last week to sort out the medical issues. During this time we gratefully received $500 from the Reunion committee via Gloria. My brothers Andrew, Ronnie and I would like to thank the Reunion committee for this fund at this time of her need.
Many Thanks again, |

I joined M.E.H.S. in 60-61 at nursery level and having double promotion from Kindergarden I to Kindergarden III left Class II in April 1965. The last year at school was my first under Burmese medium. I was born in Rangoon so the transition from English to Burmese wasn't a problem. I was only 9 yrs old so the memory as regards to fellow class-mates, unfortunately, is'nt that brilliant! However, I remember the canteen (excellent mohinga, powsee, khow-suey etc.), the play-field next to it, the covered basketball court, the 'English garden' opposite the entrance, the dry-cleaners across the road - Paramount, I think, and the cinema, President, further along before the bridge and the railway station to the left, opp. the football stadium. I also remember, playing one of the wise kings in a nativity play at X-mas and the teacher taping down the cups on the tray I was suppose to present baby Jesus so as not to topple them of the tray. I was in Yellow house and used to stand with our colour house at assembly. |

Hi, My name is Anwer SOORTY, and all my brothers studied at M.E.H.S. at sometime or another. Tofik (Robin), Yousoof, Amin, Iqbal and myself. I left in April 1965 after passing Class II when I was 9 years old. I remember Mrs.Logie as our head and remember my parents taking presents for her on her birthday. I recall a cheeky tall girl in my class called Molly who had curly dark hair.I think my teacher was Mrs. DeSantos or maybe her daughter 'Bunny'. She also had a son Alan who got married to Trudy whose wedding I attended. Anyway,I can go on and on as the site brought alot of memories back. By the way, your photo re: Journalists 1956, the person standing at the back in short-sleeves on the left is Robin (Tofik) SOORTY not Sulty. Great to see the site, all the best for the future. And long may it continue. Methodist English High School from whom we are of thee, loyal sons and daughters we shall ever be.... maojinjaw@hotmail.com |

Hope the MEHS reunion went off well this past July. Just back from a great trip to the UK, Spain and Morocco. While in London, met tons of Burmese in the Croydon area, and spotted a Burmese restaurant on Edgeware Rd. Was closed when I got there. Has anybody been there? Would like to give it a try when I am back in London next year. |

I have just discovered this website and am excited. I studied in MEHS from 1963-65 (grades 4, 5) and then went to take private tuitions from Mr. Henderson, when the school was nationalised. I remember my teachers Mrs. Brinkely, Mr. Joshi (Hindi). Also some of my classmates- Hazel Smith, Sandra Colqohoun (I am not sure of the spelling), Margaret, Richard. Would love to hear from anyone of that class. Mani |
