Good job

I was at MEHS in 1955 (Nusery) and 1956 (Lower Kindy A). A few sharp memories remain, but these do not include faces or names of staff or fellow students. A general memory that I enjoyed MEHS definitely remains, even if I did get punished (at least once!) for doing what the teacher told me!

Your tests below are a bit hard, but I was able to answer two of them from Swaying Palms 1955-56.

I happened to come across the articles and comments of the last reunion and would have loved to come if I had known. Do I subscribe to be on the mailing list regarding reunions.

It was also touching to read comments about my mother, Mrs. Hein Tin and my aunt, Mrs. Ho.

Thank you for all the effort in compiling the photo gallery and the website.

I have printed about fifty pictures of the MEHSA Re-Union. But it took an hour long telephone call from Jenny Lim to identify several friends in these pictures. Lynn Aung Thet was pictured with many attractive ladies that Jenny had to tell me which was his "better half".

I recognised my classmates Aye Set, Jenny McIntosh and Elizabeth Tin Oo. But Elizabeth had to tell me it was June Taw in the picture with her and Winston Chu. I went to June Taw's house every Sunday for several years for piano lessons by her mother.

The idea for a MEHS alumni association started when Juliet Teoh visited Dallas in 1988. We recruited Roland Khin who managed an import business in New York and had mass-mailing facilities. Little did we realize that this idea would develop into two world-class Re-Unions.

I have the full confidence that Edwin Aye Tut will organize an even better Re-Union in 2008.

Thank you for the excellent photos. They are vibrant and the photographers certainly captured the essence and spirit of all the MEHSA students and graduates and of course instructors. Mrs. Logie would have been so proud and pleased if she understood her signifance to each and everyone of us.

The Organizing Committee certainly created a memorable event for those that were able to attend.

Kudoes to the committee for organizing the July 2-3, 2006 reunion. The event was a reunion for me and for Nora who is not an alumni; she met friends that she hasn't seen or heard from for many years; small world indeed.

The astounding thing about the online photo album I've created is that it has registered 7K+ hits in just 72 hours. There must be many MEHS alumni and friends out there in Cyberspace.

Kim, I have Doreen's address in New York (in case you do not hear from Alex (Vivyan) Sharma, Prof.Emeritus! He might have started packing already (in between watching the World Cup games which he and I are both watching avidly). He is stopping by to see my dear mother, his cousin on his travels through Europe.

Also, to Ann Pascal, I thought Louise would have kept in touch with Marika. They were such good friends. Well, I shall be speaking with Jon Chen today and perhaps Alan Wu will contact me.

Now that we are starting our retirement we are slowly coming out of the MEHS woodwork. Vivian Sharma, where is your sister Doreen? We palled around in those last years in school. Ann Pascal also mentioned Louise Chamrette. I have often wondered where she is now. We spent a lot of after school time together. For many of us who cannot attend the reunion this site substitutes as a mini reunion. When I studied those faces in the photograph of the teachers dated 1956, lots and lots of memories flooded back.

Sorry I'm going to miss the MEHSA gathering in July in California; will be on my way to the UK, Spain, and Morocco.

While in the UK plan to meet up with Peter McLean who managed to contact me through Frances Mahoney. Peter was a classmate of mine in class of 1956 and hope to catch up on a whole lot of news from him since we last saw each other when I left Myanmar in 1958.

Have been enjoying first three years of early retirement and doing lots of travelling, especially visiting ex-students from my university in Montreal who are teaching around the world. I would never have thought that one of them would be helping teachers in a Karen refugee camp on the Thai-Burmese border! Plan to make another trip to Thailand this winter and journey on to visit relatives and friends in Australia, New Zealand, Hawaii, and California.

No, I don't miss teaching at all! Too many things to see and do! Have fun at the reunion!

Thank you.

Muriel Khin Mg and I would like to get in touch with Marika Barrington. Both of us have a picture of the three of us at Marika's 16th Birthday party. Muriel was good enough to give me one and I was glad to see Muriel recently at a get-together at The Hofbrau in San Jose. Perhaps Louise Chamarette or Marika's cousin, Colleen who was with us in the Second Standard I think, will be able to do so if they see this request.

Marika's father James, went to school with my dad, Eustace Beale before World War II. Vicky Paxton related to Rita, and the A.C. Martin of A.C. Martin and Co. along with Mrs. Logie were all contemporaries. Does this ring a bell, somebody?

Since Cecil told me Muriel would be at the Reunion, perhaps I will send copies of some photos of the old contemporaries with her. Pat Thaung Sein, whose husband Ko Kin Oung wrote "Who Killed Aung San?" remembers Muriel also.

I am sorry I shall miss the 2nd Reunion since the 1st was so memorable and the locale excellent. There were very few contempory classmates but I received several emails after the event. I got in touch with Myrna Rodriguez and we exchange Christmas cards and Peter McLean was in touch with me recently to name a couple. I am still hoping to hear from Ann Gilmon.

Mike and I shall be celebrating our 29th Anniversary and I certainly did not want to miss it in 200l but the opportunity to see the Logies, Gillian in particular was so rewarding, and Gloria, Cecil, Harry and Tommy, also, old classmates in the 2nd Standard and from 4th Std on was very nostalgic.

Have a good time all.

It was amazing to see someone who taught me when I was 6 years old. It is amazing how many fond memories I have of our old MEHS school.
