On 4/27/00 Brian Sein Tun wrote: Funds to help old teachers. I think Thomas is right, but how do we get started? Since this will involve money, it will not be fair to ask any individual to volunteer for this task. It will be great if anyone can come up with some good suggestions. I was back in Burma for a week in February and my sister, Winsome told me that she is looking after U Than Tin (Science and Chemistry teacher), who is now in his seventies and cannot teach anymore due to his failing eyesight. He was still teaching when our sons were in High school during the mid eighties. He also gave private tuition to our sons and their friends on weekends. I know there will be many other like U Than Tin who will need our help and hopefully, we will be able to do something about it soon. Bryan. |

On 4/18/00 John King wrote: I found Thomas Manton's "Reflections" fascinating. The article appeared at the very moment I was wondering what had become of them. I first came across the Mantons at Kingswood School - my sister Ruth and I must be fairly unique having attended both Kingswood and MEHS. My mother (Emily King) also taught at both schools and I think that it was Rev. Manton who got her to teach at MEHS when my father (Capt Danny King) was posted back to Rangoon. |

I was so amaze to find my old school (M.E.H.S.) on the web. It's been a very long long time so I've forgot a lot of things concerning M.E.H.S. but I will try and remember as much as I can. Thank you very very much for who ever create this website. I do know that M.E.H.S. guys & gals are always superb wherever they are or whatever they do. Bravo! all you ex-M.E.H.S. guys & gals. I'm still using the name Mrs. Logie gave to me when I was admitted to M.E.H.S. in the nursery. She named me "TERENCE" which I'm still using here in U.S.A. (Las Vegas). Not only was it amazing to find my old school on the website but equally suprising to find my childhood picture on class of 68! (Top photo). "GOD" this is miracle. O.K. the guy on 2D is me. I loved to dress up since I'm a little kid. You can see the difference with my favorite tie. "The check tie". WOW! this is fantastic. My mother was also a well known teacher in M.E.H.S., her name was "DAW GYO BYU" which pronounced "JOE BA-U". Maybe some of you guys might know her. So sorry to say she rest in "CHRIST" on April 14th 1994 which is going to be 6th annivasary tomorrow. What a coincidence!. There's so much to write about M.E.H.S. but since the letter is getting long I'm going to stop. VIVA! good old M.E.H.S., and do e-mail me & drop a line
or 2. Sincerely, TERENCE LYN. (Ex-Student of Methodist English High School) |

On 4/11/00 Thomas Ong wrote: After browsing back the memory lane, I felt that we (all MEHSA) should form a sort of a trust fund and help our old teachers in their "thar ye , Nar ye". We owe them a lot for our good basic foundation in our early education, and I think now is the time ( may be a bit too late for some of our late teachers) to repay our "Kwee Zu". I am sure most of us will agree. Do any of you have any suggestions or connections with Burma? Will like to hear from our alumni. Btw. I got our 4B class teacher Mrs. D'Souza's address from Sheldon Battle (thanks!) and you all can write to her.
Best wishes to all you guys, |

On 4/10/00 Judy Tay wrote: I just read with great interest about the "Mantons" and learnt so much more about them and their work in Burma. I was baptized by Dr. Manton and was quite young when Dr. & Mrs. Manton had to leave Burma. I did have the privilege to meet them again in 1979/80 when they visited Burma. We had a big church dinner to honor and thank them. I treasure the "International Cook Book" and thank my Mum for saving it all these years. I do share many of the recipes with friends and family. The Mantons did a lot for our church and after reading the detail account, am so very thankful that they were also the founders of the school. My sisters (Jennifer and June Rajh) and my husband (Roddy Tay) and others were the fortunate ones who were able to attend MEHS. Will have to pass this along to all MEC members and MEHS friends. I remember them well during the early days of M.E.H.S. I did send for the cook book but never got around to replying to Karis, for which I am sorry. I am glad to hear that they are all doing well and that their parents lived a very rich and rewarding life. |

On 3/27/00 Bryan Sein Tun (Swe Tun) wrote: The last time I visited the site was June/1998. I was transferred to India and although I kept in touch with Juliet and Kenny through the email, I couldn't visit the MEHSA site as I did not have facilities for the internet. I managed to get the internet last month and was so sad to read the news about Juliet. The last letter I received from her was on 2/2/99 which I saved in my "to reply" file. I never got around to replying to that letter and now I realise that I will never be able to do so. Please take this as a lesson and don't wait for tomorrow to get in touch with each other. I managed to talk to two of my favorite teachers when I first arrived in America. They are Daw Khin Khin Thein who was residing in MESA, Arizona and Daw Myint Myint Sein who was in LA, California. Please include their names and addresses if possible. |

On 3/25/00 William Pe Kyi wrote: I went to Yangon last month and met a lot of old pals from MEHS. I played a few rounds of golf with Teddy Saing (Mya Bu). He took me to three courses in Yangon-Okkala, Yangon and YCDC. Yangon is the best and Asian PGA/ Yangon Open was held there at the end of February. Teddy Saing is in construction business but probably he will change his profession to being a golf pro, because he is on the golf course every morning! He owns a hotel in Bagan called Kumudara, and he said he will give discount to any MEHS friends. More information on www.myanmars.net/kumudara Tel:062-70080. We had a reunion of our University hockey team and as you know a lot of the players were from MEHS. We had a meal and a karaoke evening which was great fun. I can still remember the day we clinched the inter-school championship. Clement Tin Tut and Tin May Lwin told me that they had regular MEHS gatherings in Yangon. I told all my friends about MEHS web site and they are all excited to hear about it. Edward Thein Han and April Tun Myint took us to Kyaikhtiyo and Thamanya. We did not plan to go anywhere other than Yangon but it was a nice surprise. Peter Ba Pu was there as well and he also came along. The journey to Kyaikhto was only three hours from Yangon. It took another three hours to Thamanya, but its worth going just to pay homage to Sayadaw. We stayed with Edwin Aye Tut and Tammy Aung in Bangkok . Edwin and Tammy also hold MEHS gatherings in Bangkok. My nephews and neices attend Dagon1 and I had a glimpse of the school from the outside. It really gave me a nostalgic feeling after all these years. I would like to thank all my friends for their kind hospitality and really overwhelmed by their generosity. We plan to go again in January 2001. Edward is planning our 1973 batch Medical College reunion on 14th January. All classmates please note. Yours sincerely, William Pe Kyi (Dr. Tin Maung Myint) |

Thanks to the website we had kept in touch and were able to send directions etc. Also Pat Kin Oung and I have been corresponding via e-mail and it's if the years have caught up and we can see each other mentally every day. We hope to be able to visit with each other soon. My brother also is caught up in MEHSA and apparently Dr. Alex Sharma is also. Vive la WEBSITE! |
