You and other old students might be interested in the well being of Mrs. Ho and Mrs. Hein Tin, both of who are now in their mid eighties.

Mrs. Ho, the eldest has battled breast cancer over the years and has miraculously survived well. She now has difficulty in walking but I am told that her mind and memory is alert and sharp as ever.

Mrs. Hein Tin, however, is not in such good shape physically and mentally. She has Parkinson's disease, has cateracts/glaucoma in both eyes and suffers from acute deafness.

I last saw them in Rangoon in March last year and they always perk up when reminiscing about their past naughty and "more docile" pupils and the joy they derived out of teaching and seeing the generations leaving and hearing about their progress.

Postcards, letters, Christmas cards, photographs from ex-pupils always cheer them up. Their addresses are:

Mrs. Agnes Ho(Daw Thein Myint)
38A Bawdi Yeiktha Than Lwin Rd., (Windermere)
Yangon, Myanmar
Mrs. Lily Hein Tin(Daw Thein Nu)
93 Old Yedashe Road
Bahan P.O.
Yangon, Myanmar

I've had the opportunity to visit the MEHS web site and read some of the letters Mrs Logie had written to MEHSA. I still remember her fondly from my school days in Rangoon. I left MEHS at the age of twelve in 1962 to continue my schooling at St. Paul's, Darjeeling. I remember Mrs. Logie was a little disappointed to hear from my father of his decision to shift me to a school in India. My sister, Sapna, however, continued at MEHS and finally took her 'O' Level through the British Council at Rangoon since MEHS was nationalised by the time she was to graduate.

I was in Wesley House. I remember the basketball House matches which were keenly contested. I also recall with a touch of nostalgia the school "fun fair" and was happy to see one of the photographs on our web site. I still have a few pictures of the school in my album, including one of the school staff of 1959-60 and also my class photograph of the same year. I shall be happy to share them with you if you think they would be of interest to other web site visitors.

From my school days at MEHS, some of the names of friends that I can still recall with fond memories include Monica Huwe, Margaret Kamdar, Naomi Daniels, Sarah Daniels, Mary Henderson (her father was on the school faculty) Yao Chon Chang and his sister Yao Lin and Hazel Kyaw Zaw. Hazel was the class monitor with me in Std IV. I also cherish very fond memories of the Methodist Youth Fellowship at the school chapel on Sundays.

Although I left MEHS in 1962 to continue my schooling in India, my parents stayed on in Burma till 1975. My last visit to Burma was in 1970 on my way to Tokyo on a scholarship at Keio University. Although Rangoon had changed much by then, many of my old school friends were still in the country. I had the occasion to renew links with Burma once again when I was on sabbatical at the London School of Economics during 1995-96. Aung Naing, the husband of Keiko, one of my class-mates at LSE, helped me seek out many Burmese friends in London. Aung Naing is presently working on the BBC Overseas Service as a Burmese news-reader.

I am presently back home here in India after twelve years on international assignments with UNICEF including five years (1991-55) under the Iraq Emergency. It feels nice to be back home with the family once again. My father, who is close to ninety, still cherishes the hope of going back to Rangoon to ring the huge bell at the Shwe Dagon. He had spent the major part of his life as a practising lawyer at the Rangoon Bar.

On recalling our Burma days, we still feel that India is only a "second home", our family having spent close to a hundred years and three generations there, in "the land of pure and noble creed, where each lived in part and in equality, our country! our land!"

I shall be more than happy to keep alive this renewed link with MEHS. Do keep in touch. I must really thank you for pulling me out of "cyberia"!

Cheers!
Gautam

The web-site is very impressive. Well done to Kenny. Hope we all keep it going.

Mrs. Logie hasn't seen the web-site as yet although I've tried my best to describe it to her. She still lives in Stourport-on-Severn and longs for company. She appreciates the letters and telephone calls from friends and old students. So please keep writing and calling.

If anyone wants to visit Mrs. Logie when they visit the U.K. just give me a call and I'll try my best to help. My home telephone number is (0121)444-1589 and my mobile is 07971-241103.

Anyway, would appreciate it if you can send some info or add me to your newsletter if applicable. My work address follows:
