Daw Yin Hla

Than Hlaing, also known as Daw Yin Hla, 69, died suddenly on June 14 of heart failure in Arlington, Va.
Ms. Hlaing joined the Foreign Service Institute in 1967 as the senior Burmese language instructor. She received numerous awards and recognition for her service, including Meritorious Honor Awards in 1993 and 1996. She developed new course materials to train future language students.

Cleo Appleton sent the above, which appeared in the November issue of State Magazine, published by the U.S. Department of State.
